As far as official Harry Potter books go, that’s all you can get your hands on (for now). However, you can read more of JK Rowling’s work, as shown below. There is also more (exclusive) content available on Pottermore.

The Casual Vacancy – JK Rowling’s first novel for adults. Widely criticized by the public and critics alike, this novel did not fare very well at all, the hardback book scored a measly 2½ stars out of 5 on Amazon. The paperback fared a little better, scoring 3½ stars.  I don’t think people took too kindly to her leaving Harry Potter standing happily on platform 9¾ and saying his story was done…..still, this book is worth a read! I feel people were too hard on her because of who she was and how successful Potter was.

Interestingly, JK Rowling’s next venture was released with no fanfare whatsoever and with the readers having no clue she’d even written the book.  The critics raved and the public loved this ‘debut’ novel. Very strange that when they didn’t know it was her, they reviewed it on artistic merit alone, rather than basing their opinions on a reputation and previous success.

“I hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience! It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name. The upside of being rumbled is that I can publicly thank my editor David Shelley, who has been a true partner in crime, all those people at Little, Brown who have been working so hard on The Cuckoo’s Calling without realising that I wrote it, and the writers and reviewers, both in the newspapers and online, who have been so generous to the novel. And to those who have asked for a sequel, Robert fully intends to keep writing the series, although he will probably continue to turn down personal appearances.”

If you can’t get enough JK Rowling, definitely try the 2 novels above.

Parody novels

I haven’t read these so I don’t know if they’re any good but it all seems to have been done in good humour and the fact that they are readily available and JK Rowling hasn’t had them banned or removed must mean that it’s all been done in a good way, in the correct spirit. I imagine she might be rather amused by these novels. Click on the picture to view or buy the books at Amazon.

You can expect to encounter characters named “Barry Trotter”, “Lon Measly”, and “Ermine Cringer” all who attend “Hogwash School for Wizardry and Witchcrap”. Among the cast of characters is also: Lord Valumart, Alpo Bumblemore, and Fred and Jorge Measly. I for one, will happily extend my Harry Potter reading time, even if it does mean straying off the official path! 😉
